Artist William Paul Thomas prepares his wood block self portrait for the Big Ink press at the Art Space in Downtown Raleigh on November 10, 2019. This is Thomas’ first attempt at wood block printing, an ancient process in which the artist carves a negative image in wood, inks the image, places a sheet of paper over it and then presses it to obtain a positive. Thomas spent over twenty hours carving his likeness for this project.
